Sofa Ski Camp At Treble Cone

PREMIUM SKI IMPROVEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT CAMPS

TRANSFORM YOUR SKIING

Want to improve your skiing out of sight? Break old habits and build stronger fundamentals? Increase your confidence and ability to explore the whole mountain?

Sofa Ski Camps at Treble Cone are  designed to transform your skiing experience.

CAMP GOALS

This intensive 5 day ski camp will elevate your skiing to the next level. Klaus Mair and his hand-picked team individually tailor the content of the program to ensure you achieve lasting results, new skills and confidence.

CAMP GOALS

PHILOSOPHY

To make lasting improvement in all areas of your skiing, it’s essential to focus on the fundamentals. Your coach will break down your skiing to its basics and help you rebuild, addressing the basics to ensure that nothing is holding you back. Time spent on the fundamentals early in the week will set you up for success.

PHILOSOPHY

Only if we clearly understand what we should be doing differently can we start to change it. Sofa Coaches use video analysis to help you understand your strengths and weaknesses and make sure that you can work on precisely the areas that present the biggest potential for improvement.

Pre Camp Consultation

Once you register for a camp, Klaus Mair of Sofa Ski School will get in touch with you directly to start planning your training. You’ll fill out a short online form and get access to the Sofa Ski Camp member area, with lots of useful ski technique information, ski clips and articles to get you ready for your camp. Sofa Ski Camp guests also receive free access to Klaus' latest instructional video "From Blue to Powder" valued at NZ$40.

BLUE TO POWDER TRAILER
Pre Camp Consultation

VIDEO ANALYSIS

The camp begins by assessing each participant’s skiing, by using our unique and highly successful technique analysis concept. After a few runs to get warmed up and familiarise yourself with Treble Cone, we’ll video your skiing to help you see and really understand where you are at and what the effect of both subtle or substantial changes might be.

VIDEO ANALYSIS

A PLATFORM FOR SUCCESS

Your coach will develop a personalised plan for change, identifying focus areas and work with you throughout the week in a positive, encouraging and fun way characterised by precise supervision and effective coaching to make sure that you will achieve your goals. To make sure that you can reach your goals you will find yourself in a small group of similar ability with a maximum number of 5 participants.

A PLATFORM FOR SUCCESS

Sofa coaches are assisted at all times by Klaus Mair and have the latest teaching tools available to them. Coaches are always equipped with camera gear to enable video checks whenever it may be beneficial. They may also use our unique UClear Helmet Intercom System which allows the coach to talk to you while you are skiing or while they are demonstrating.

CONSOLIDATING PROGRESS

In the second half of the week you'll transfer your newly gained skills into other areas like skiing off-piste, carving, short turns, bumps and powder.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised that all the fundamental things you worked on in the first half of the week are the key to success across the whole mountain. With sound fundamentals, you’ll be skiing with less effort, more efficiently and with greater strength and confidence across a wide variety of terrain and conditions. You'll have new tools and confidence you can take to any mountain, anywhere in the world.

CONSOLIDATING PROGRESS

LASTING CHANGE

In a second video analysis session we will review how the new sensations that you’ve experienced have transformed your skiing. To make sure that you don’t forget all the things you’ve learned during the camp, every participant will receive digital copies of their personal video analysis and all the ski footage taken during the week.

Along with your training diary, this content is a great reference tool for you after the camp. All this content becomes part of your personal ski diary, which will also help you and your coach to track your progress for future camps.

LASTING CHANGE

CAMP SCHEDULE

SATURDAY

Optional Equipment Check at Racer's Edge, Wanaka. A chance to discuss your gear with the Sofa team and ensure you're set up for the week.

SUNDAY

After a short welcome and introduction at 0930 we will head up the mountain and do a few runs together to finalize the groups. We will make sure that everybody is in a group where they are comfortable and where we can reach the goals set. Changes to the groups can also be made at a later stage if necessary.

First Video Assessment and Goal Setting: We will have a good look at your skiing and based on this analysis will come up with precise goals for the week. For skiers that have done a camp with us in the past we will do this on the second day, to give them a full day to repeat and secure the things we focused on last year.

Equipment Check: Being on the right skis and most importantly in a ski boot that fits is key for being able to ski really well. We will have a good look at your set up and if necessary will take you to Racers Edge in Wanaka at 1800 where you will get a free assessment from a boot fitting expert. Sometimes the adjustments can be as easy as making the boot stiffer or softer, changing the canting or getting a custom-made footbed.

MONDAY

Ski, train, have fun!

TUESDAY

By this point we should be able to see the results of the work you're putting in! We will meet in the evening at Wanaka's Urban Grind at 1900 for dinner, drinks and to watch some of the footage that the coaches have captured. Klaus will give a short ski tech talk. You'll get to step back, relax and meet your fellow campers.

WEDNESDAY

More skiing, more training, even more fun on the mountain.

THURSDAY

Before/After Video Review. This video analysis session will sum up all the things up that we have worked on so far. We will compare your runs from day one with your skiing from later in the week and create a video summary for you that will serve as your main reminder clip for the next time you will go skiing. This will give you a clear picture of the things you want to avoid and what you want to do more of. It's a useful tool you can keep referring to, wherever you ski. Then we'll celebrate your success with apres-ski drinks at Gin and Raspberry on Wanaka's lakefront from 1730.

FRIDAY or SATURDAY

(weather dependent)

Optional Heli Ski Day! Take advantage of an exclusive discount on Heli Skiing with Harris Mountain Heliskiing. Test your new skills in perfect powder. Each group of 4 skiers is accompanied by a mountain guide and their coach.

Do you provide transport from Wanaka to Treble Cone?

We don’t provide transport to the mountain. Treble Cone offers a free bus service to the mountain from a number of locations in Wanaka and a free mountain shuttle from the base of the access road. A wide variety of car rental options are available in Wanaka and Queenstown.

Which skis should I bring?

In general we recommend that you should use the skis which you are most familiar with. We don’t recommend that you don't bring a ski much wider than 85mm under foot. Wider skis are more difficult to use on groomed slopes when working on specific skiing skills and do not give you the feedback from the edge that will help you to improve. Please email us if you have questions about your ski equipment. We will also have the chance to demo skis on the mountain and don't forget that Sofa Camp customers receive a 20% discount with Racers Edge Wanaka

I am low-level intermediate skier. Would you recommend this camp for me?

The minimum requirement for the camp is that you are a confident intermediate skier able to control your speed using mostly parallel turns on a blue run. If you are still skiing in a wedge most of the time then we would recommend Treble Cone’s group or private lesson products. Both of those alternatives will ensure you are grouped with skiers of similar ability. If you are concerned that you are not ready for the camp then please email us. You can send video of yourself skiing if you have it: https://sofaskischool.wetransfer.com

What coaches will be used for this camp?

All coaches involved in the Sofa Ski Camps at Treble Cone are especially selected experienced full cert instructors that have been hand picked and trained by Klaus Mair. Many of our coaches have a number of seasons experience working with Sofa Ski Camps and most of them have a background in high performance coaching in ski racing or freeskiing.

If you have any questions we haven’t answered here, please contact the Snowsports School at Treble Cone.

COACH: SAM LEE

I'm a Level 3 Full Cert. Instructor. I started skiing at three years old and I’ve been on a mission to go fast and jump off stuff ever since. I have been competing in Freeride for almost ten years since I was 16, and I am now lining up my third season on the Freeride World Tour in 2019.
I became certified as a L2 ski instructor in my last year of high school so that I could pursue freeride and this is my eighth season teaching with the last three coaching freeride. Along the way I have passed Kids Cert L1 and Freeski L1.
I love working at TC because the terrain is off the chain and the view is beautiful!
My favourite run is dropping the summit rocks then hitting Crags into Shooter!

COACH: SAM LEE

Coach: Louis Charnaud

I grew up skiing in the US and Europe. I hold a level two British Association of Ski Instructors certification and have passed the technical portion of my level three. I specialise in teaching freeride and capturing all the action in the mountain with my camera for my signature ski films. I love TC because of the accessibility to big mountain terrain and I enjoy that there is always someone to go for a rip with. This is my 5th season at Treble Cone working as a coach for the Team TC Freeride team.
