Treble Cone's legendary natural terrain provides the rare opportunity to train in true big mountain environment, and our immensely successful TC Freeski Camps are the best way to do it! Teens can explore our terrain, challenge themselves, and participate in one of the fastest growing and coolest of mountain sports. TC Freeski Camps will again be offered to teenagers from 13-17 years during the NZ school holiday weeks of July 5-9 and July 12-16, with the first week also open for ages 11-13 years.
Our professional big mountain coaches will ensure aspiring free skiers and riders have an amazing experience, whether your goals are to compete in future NZ Freeski Open competitions or you just want to improve your freeski skills and become a better all mountain skier, this programme will suit all your needs.
Led by eight-time NZ Freeski champion Geoff Small, an international team of specially selected and renowned freeskiers will pass on their knowledge and show you how you can get the most out of the more challenging terrain at Treble Cone.
The focus of the camp will be on freeskiing and everything that comes with it - we want to give the participants skills, information and confidence to be able to safely ski the big mountain.
There will be two camps that will run for five days each during the July school holidays.
To make the most of this experience, ski ability should be at an adventurous strong intermediate level to expert.
Our programme provides the necessary skills to ski stronger and smarter in any snow condition. The focus is Big Mountain... ‘skiing everything, anytime, anywhere'
Goals include:
- Gaining new techniques and tactics to allow for a more controlled approach in steep terrain
- Use of terrain to ones' advantage, using natural features, jumps, rock stalls, cliff drops etc
- Guidance with selecting big mountain lines.
- Mental and tactical aspects of Freeski competitions
- Avalanche and big mountain danger awareness in cooperation with Treble Cone Ski Patrol.
The ideal ski for this camp would be a "mid fat" around 80mm under foot.
