Freeride - Treble Cone Freeski and Snowboard Programme 2010

Freeride and Big Mountain free skiing is a key part of Treble Cone's culture and we have the programmes to get you exploring and enjoying the mountain to the full.

Our locals introductory Riders and Sliders programme for 6 - 14 year olds runs through the season.  But as you grow you want bigger and better challenges such as the TC Freeride Team , maybe one of Geoff Small's Freeride camps or the very popular School Holiday Freeride Camps.

Riders and Sliders for local kids

If you're a free skier or snowboarder and a regular visitor to Treble Cone, the TC Riders and Sliders programme is perfect for you. Learn new skills, explore new terrain, free ski & board, and most of all - have fun with your friends. Suitable for all abilities from 6 - 14 years.

Your parents can leave you in the experienced and safe hands of professional ski and snowboard coaches, and enjoy the slopes for themselves. You'll ride and slide in groups of similar age and ability, with the same instructor every Sunday for 6 weeks. Enjoy TC Cat Challenges, Off-Piste danger day, try racing, bumps and much more.

A TC Family Mountain pass includes Riders and Sliders for the children in the family for only a few dollars more.  Or sign up without your family and receive a free youth season pass.

School Holiday Freeride camps

*Update - Free Ski Camp now open to 11-13 years. Hurry limited spaces available (6-10th July Only)

Treble Cone's legendary natural terrain makes it the perfect setting for a true Big Mountain training environment. Due to popular demand our TC Freeski Camps have been specifically designed to cater for teenagers 13-17 years who wish to progress in the dynamic sport of free skiing / boarding.

Our professional big mountain coaches will ensure an amazing experience, whether your goals are to compete in future NZ Freeski Open competitions or you just want to improve your freeski skills, this programme will suit all your needs.

New to the programme this year is renowned big mountain free skier Geoff Small, now Wanaka based and keen to share his technical skills with youth.

The rest of the coaching team are renowned big mountain skiers that have a lot of experience and skills to share. The focus of the camp will be on freeskiing and everything that comes with it - we want to give the participants skills and information to be able to safely ski the big mountain.

The camp will run for 5 days during the 2009 July School holidays with 4 days on-mountain training and one day off-mountain dry land training.

The school holiday camp is available to skiers only, aged 13 - 17 years. To make the most of this experience, ski ability should be at an adventurous strong intermediate level, through to expert.

Our programme provides the necessary skills to ski stronger and smarter in any snow condition. The focus is Big Mountain... ‘skiing everything, anytime, anywhere'

Goals include:

  • Gaining new techniques and tactics to allow for a more controlled approach in steep terrain;
  • Use of terrain to ones' advantage, using natural features, jumps, rock stalls, cliff drops etc;
  • Guidance with selecting big mountain lines.

We may also cover (if on-snow time allows) avalanche awareness, off-piste gate training, mental preparation & competition.

The ideal ski for this camp would be a "mid fat" around 90mm under foot (eg the Dynastar Pro Rider).

Helmets are compulsory, and don't forget your running shoes.

Camp dates: 6th - 10th July 2009, or 13th - 17th July 2009
