What to do
You need to make a decision about which one you would like to try, skiing or snowboarding. This will influence which package is suitable for your needs. Snow Sports provides one and three day first timer packages to best get you up and running. Click here to view or book one. If you chose to take a lesson it will begin at 10.20am or 1.20pm.
What to expect?
After you have your tickets you will be directed to equipment hire. Here you will be fitted with your correct sized gear. You may want to put your gear in storage that you do not require for the day. If you ask one of the staff in rental equipment hire they will be able to help.
Take care walking in your ski boots, they are not as flexible as normal shoes. It is a bit easier if you loosen your buckles while you are walking.
What to Wear
You need to dress warmly as Treble Cone is an alpine environment. Some clothing is available for hire and purchase from our retail shop.
Weather conditions can be changeable and can switch from sunny to white out conditions in a short time. We recommend you wear windproof and waterproof outerwear, a warm jersey ie polar fleece or merino, thermals, woolen socks, waterproof gloves and most importantly a warm hat.
The reflection of the snow means you need to have protection. Bring some sunglasses or goggles, sunscreen and SPF lip balm.
How to get there
There are transport providers available that visit the mountain daily. Click here to view. These are return services that operate from local accommodation providers. Alternatively you can drive your car up the access road. Please ensure that you carry chains and know how to fit them. The road is unsealed, but 4WD are not necessary. The access road is 7km long, when you arrive at the top you will be directed by one of our staff members to a parking spot. Take care when walking across the car park as it can get slippery.
Your Day
Generally the beginner will spend their day on the green trails, these are marked on the trail map. For the first part of the day you will be on the Nice and Easy Platter where you will learn the art of the wedge, how to stop and all the necessary things you need to get you going.
Don’t forget to eat lunch, there is a wide selection of café food and espresso is available in the base building area, sit outside and enjoy the spectacular views across Lake Wanaka.
